R/EVOLVE Film Festival Schedule and Tickets

OFFICIAL SELECTION

SPECTRUM PRIDE FILM FEST

2013

R/EVOLVE: Faith.     Family. Spirit. Unity.

What happens when a community divides itself along definitions of love and justifies the division based upon outdated and self-defeatist paradigms? In this timely documentary, filmmaker Yoruba Richen questions the assumptions about homophobia in the African-American community, setting off an impassioned conversation about gay rights, family history, the role of the Church and the legacy of the civil rights movement.

DAY TWO:
R/EVOLVE: Voice & Vision

THURS. AUGUST 29th

The New Parkway Theater - 474 24th St.

Oakland, California

R/EVOLVE: VISION    The SPECTRUM IDENTITY PROJECT presents a digital exhibit of the work of several LGBTQ artists who are redefining the meaning of self with sound and sight as their conduit for paradigm shifting notions of the power of authentic identity upon wellness - individually and collectively.  Several of the artists will be in attendance to curate their pieces cum film shorts.

R/EVOLVE: VOICE     Unfolding in Brooklyn on the night of President Obama’s 2008 election, “Big Words” explores weighty themes with a very light touch. Weaving race, class, sexual orientation and politics — as well as the evolution of rap music — into a wistful tapestry of male disaffection, the film’s writer and director, Neil Drumming, introduces three not-so-young men whose friendship fell apart 15 years earlier along with their rising hip-hop group.
